THESE STORIES WE TELL.

TRAUMA COMES IN A MULTITUDE OF FORMS BUT ITS IMPACT IS LIFE CHANGING.

To make sense of these events we often tell ourselves stories.

Stories about why it happened, how we can change, what it means.

The These Stories We Tell project is an original dance theatre performance and a therapeutic intervention.

Using the latest ideas from somatic psychotherapy, combined with creative storytelling, we have developed a new way to draw out our experiences to create meaningful dance.

The performance follows three real-life stories as they constantly cross from the real world to the land of stories. Mountains appear from school desks, forests from chairs, reality and the stories blur.

Creative, enthralling, thought-provoking, These Stories We Tell will resonate with everyone who has experienced challenges in their life.

The right support can make a substantial difference to the extent that traumatic events impact on their lives.

Our Artistic Director, Paul says “the UK government and the World Health Organisation have shown that engagement with the arts can directly improve our mental wellbeing.

Somatic dance movement has demonstrated that creatively exploring these events can substantially benefit those affected by trauma”.

‘This process…helped me make sense of who I am, as a person.’

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS.

Somatic wellbeing in a creative community context is a relatively unexplored process to improving mental health.

Co-creating with young people through inclusive workshops empowers them to engage with their own stories through dance.

Culturally endemic experiences are looked at through a culturally relevant lens allowing for all groups to feel included and heard.
