ABOUT US.

WELCOME TO
RIVERSIDE DANCE.

At Riverside Dance, we believe in the transformative power of dance. As a Worcestershire-based dance theatre company, we're dedicated to this belief.

Founded by Dr. Paul Golz FRSA, we've established ourselves as a home and inclusive space for creative expression, artistic development, and collaboration.

A BELIEF IN:

CONNECTING WITH PEOPLE.

We're committed to crafting dance that resonates deeply with people.

Our productions delve into human experiences, offering an honest reflection of what it means to be a person in the world today. People find them funny and joyous, playful and raw, and everything in between.

CREATING OPPORTUNITIES.

Our studios have been a nurturing ground for producers and performers, writers and digital marketers.

From first roles to retraining opportunities, our projects have discovered and developed emerging talent across the midlands.

HONESTY & RESPONSIBILITY.

Our novel and inclusive approach to auditions and workshops allow us to remove barriers to inclusion.

Collaborating with the Artist Wellbeing company, we ensure that our team members have easy access to the support and resources they require.

KINDNESS, POSITIVITY & FRIENDSHIP.

Through our projects with schools, communities and professionals we encourage open dialogue, collaboration, and the discovery of hope.

Participants have been positive about our ability to create spaces where ideas can flourish, partnerships can form, and optimism can thrive.

TRANSFORMATIVE POWER
OF DANCE.

MEET PAUL.

Dr. Paul Golz, the Artistic Director of Riverside Dance Company, is a testament to resilience and creativity. As an autistic and neurodiverse choreographer, Paul's journey is a story of overcoming obstacles. As a survivor of childhood abuse and trauma, he found joy and healing through choreography and movement, using dance as a medium to process his experiences and find meaning in his journey.

Paul aims to offer others the same opportunity that he had, to use dance to understand and make change. With Misfitted Dance he brought live dance improvisation to pubs across Birmingham responding entirely to audience suggestions. He worked with Brighton Digital to help GCSE students to understand computer science through ballet! Browsers at the Hive library in Worcester encountered tricksters from mythology in a surprise dance installation funded by Beeline.

Paul works as course leader for dance at the University of Worcester. He wrote the UK’s first dance and community practice degree to encourage the next generation of students to continue this work. As an academic and registered Somatic Movement Dance Practitioner he explores ways dance can promote wellbeing. His most recent paper took him on a journey to discover how therapy dogs can be combined with dance to develop confidence and creativity in the classroom. There were lots of waggy tails!!

Paul was delighted to be made a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (RSA) for his contributions to the field and actively campaigns for the benefits of dance and the arts to society.
